FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If it's your first time booking a band, you're certain to have lots of questions! Below you can find a list of the most common we get asked. Many of these are geared towards weddings, however most are often as relevant for corporate and party events also. If you can't find what you're looking for, please feel free to email us or drop us a message on social media.
WHAT TIME WILL THE BAND ARRIVE?
We usually arrive and set-up from 6pm-6:30pm onwards. For weddings, this means we’re ready to set up as soon as the wedding breakfast and speeches are finished. If performing in the same room as the wedding breakfast, as is often the case, we will wait for the meal and speeches to finish before loading in the gear. We normally take 60– 90 minutes to set up which gives plenty of time for guests to stretch the legs and mingle after the formalities are over.
With corporate, birthday/ anniversary and charity events, the band will always set up and sound check before guests arrive. If you require the band to set up earlier in the day an additional fee may be required.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE THE BAND TO SET UP?
It takes us around an hour to get set up and soundcheck however we usually like to arrive well in advance of the cutting of the cake so we can familiarise ourselves with the room and ensure that we fit in with the inevitable amendments to the schedule on the day. You’d be surprised how often we’re told that the parents of the happy couple have gone missing at a crucial moment!
HOW LONG WILL THE BAND PLAY FOR?
We offer either 2 x 45, 2 x 60 or 3 x 40 minute sets. With the evening reception lasting up to five hours or more, some couples are concerned that this isn’t enough performance time but from experience we can promise that this is the perfect length of time if scheduled properly. For the best experience, we usually suggest starting the band midway through the evening, following on from the cutting of the cake and the firs dance. If you would like to ensure that there are no gaps in the entertainment right up until midnight, we’d recommend booking the DJ service to keep your choice of music going until there’s no one left standing!
HOW LONG ARE THE INTERVALS?
The intervals are usually around 30 minutes long but this can be longer to suit your requirements on the day.
WHAT TIME WILL YOU START PLAYING?
This is completely up to you and your schedule on the day. For evening events, we find it's often best to start the band at around 9pm but this is purely a guide. We usually announce the cutting of the cake, followed directly by the first dance (either a recording played through our PA or a version that we have learnt specifically to play for you) and then we go straight into our first set.
WILL THE BAND LEARN A SPECIFIC SONG TO BE PLAYED AT OUR EVENT / WEDDING?
All of our packages include the band learning your first dance if required, or alternatively one that you want to end the night on before the DJ takes over. If you have a first dance or a song to end the night on, just let us know a few months before the event. We’re usually more than happy to consider all requests, but please bear in mind the structure of our band when choosing – You’d probably be happier with a recording of the theme from Titanic than have us attempt it!
CAN WE CHOOSE THE SET LIST?
With a huge list of songs in our repertoire, you’re bound to have your favourites (and probably a few you’d rather we didn’t play). Whilst we love to have free reign on the night, as we often alter our set to suit the audience reaction, we don’t mind at all a short list of do’s and don’ts a few weeks in advance.
CAN I USE THE BAND’S PA FOR SPEECHES?
As mentioned, we usually set up after the speeches, so paying extra for an earlier set up may not be the most cost-effective option. Our advice would be to find a local PA hire company and compare costs, you may well find it’s cheaper than expected. What’s more, we tend not to use wireless mics, usually the preferred choice when making speeches from the head table. We are more than happy to make announcements on your behalf once we have the PA set up however, so for announcing the first dance/ cutting of the cake etc, and to get everyone’s attention when the fireworks are about to begin.
WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN SETS? WHY IS THERE AN EXTRA FEE FOR DJ SERVICE?
We are always happy to provide music through the PA once we are set up and between sets, this is usually a pre-mixed playlist. If you have particular songs in mind, you're also welcome to create your own playlists which can be played through the band's PA system. Our DJ option is for the use of our PA (usually up to midnight, but sometimes later) through which we will play a curated playlist for you. This can be one of our tried and tested wedding/ party playlists, or one that you have created and shared with us before the event. The band need to stay until the PA is cleared away, hence the extra charge for this – even so, many of our brides find it much less hassle and a smoother experience than hiring in a separate DJ with another PA system.
WHAT WILL THE BAND WEAR?
What you see is what you get with us! We play a mix of indie/rock and pop hits so the smart casual look you see in our photos fits the bill much more than full bib and tucker.
WHAT IF A BAND MEMBER FALLS ILL ON THE DAY?
It's hugely unlikely that any of us won't be feeling up to it on your big day, however we recognise that there is always the unexpected. As such, we have a trusted group of musicians that we can call upon in an emergency. These are referred to as ‘Dep musicians’ and are an essential part of the industry. Rest assured that we have worked with our Deps as members of our previous bands and they can drop into a booking seamlessly.
WILL THE BAND REQUIRE REFRESHMENTS?
Most brides invite us to share in the evening buffet or hog-roast etc, but please don’t feel obliged to. We normally leave for the event mid-afternoon and will often arrive home early hours of the morning so a hot meal is always greatly appreciated where possible.
